Feds help illegal immigrants send money home
My grandparents came to this country legally to build a better life, not for what the U.S. "owed them" The U.S. doesn't even owe me anything, and it certainly doesn't have an obligation to be Mexico's welfare state. The U.S. isn't perfect, but is the result of those who came here to work hard and contribute. Mexico and Mexicans, substitute any country and nationality here can continue to blame the U.S. for all of their problems, or they can look at what they need to do to build prosperity in their own land.
But "Even as the federal government is starting to crack down on companies that hire illegal immigrants, it's been helping those same workers send money home, cheap," The LA Times Reports.
And in September, according to the Times, "the Fed expanded the remittance program by allowing immigrants, legal or not, to open accounts at participating banks and credit unions in the U.S. or Mexico. About 27,000 transfers are made through the program each month."
Whose side are they on? And why are illegals trying to

It's their money
These people risk their lives so they and their families can have a better living.
They work for wages others won't work for.
They do jobs others won't do.
It's their right to send money home to their families.
The quickest and best way to stop this is to pass a sensible immigration plan that lets them bring their families here. Then the money will stay here.
No problem with people
No problem with people coming over to make a better life if they are here legally!! As far as doing the work that Americans won't do for wages Americans won't work for....that's bull....ever been to Boise?
The money saved by eliminating all that is given to illegal imigrants (prison costs, free hospital care, free lunch programs, etc. etc. etc.) maybe we could increase minimum wages so Americans would take the jobs that have somehow been determined we won't take. Not every State is swarming with illegals yet they still have janitors, busboys, and dishwashers.
Stereotypical argument
You re-hash the same old tired arguments.
You say that "maybe we could increase minimum wages".
Have you ever decided to spend more on a product knowing it was "union made"? Or do you shop for the lowest price?
You all talk about the depressed wages caused by undocumented workers but you like the low prices their slave wages provide you.
"Eliminating all that is given..."?
Undocumented workers provide $7 Billion a year into social security that they will never get back.
Do you ever tell them thank you for helping provide for your old age?
The fact of the matter is you like the low prices immigrants help provide. You like low priced produce. You like low price lawn care.
And you like making noises about something you really don't want to fix.
You make strong assumptions
Yes, I would pay more for an item union made. I am one of the rare people that refuses to shop at Walmart because of what they do to American jobs by demanding low prices forcing us to buy Chinese.
I also do my own lawn care or hire a neighborhood teenager needing extra money. I do not hire illegals that I am aware of.
Really?
When traveling you never pick a hotel that is cheaper?
You don't eat at restuarants that are less expensive than others?
How do you think they stay so cheap?
Underpaid, underpriviled labor.
Why didn't you answer the Social Security question?
Be honest, you enjoy the savings made upon the backs of others.
Yet you want to kick those others out.
If the average american really wanted undocumented workers out they would be gone. But they don't.
They want them in a position where they can be abused for profit.
I seriously doubt you check for the manufacturer of all your clothes.
YOu just shop price.
Have you ever put a shirt back because it wasn't union made?
Didn't think so.
Answers to your questions...
Regarding the Social Security question...I don't know for sure, but I'm going to guess the cost of illegal immigration is far bigger than the money that some of them contribute to SS. Personally, I don't count on it being there for me anyway so I have to try and save to take care of myself in my golden years. I would never count on our corrupt government to do that.
Regarding hotels, it is more important to me that I get Marriott or Hilton points than the price. I eat in resuarants that I like and don't care if it's cheaper than the one next door. If I can't afford to eat out, I eat at home that week.
You are correct, I don't check where all my clothing is made but I don't necessarily shop price either. My point about Walmart was simply that I don't like the store and try to never shop there. If I have to pay more from a small business than go to Walmart I would gladly do so.
I have made no bold assumptions about you and you really are pretty off base on those you have made about me.
quickest and best
The "quickest and best" way to stop it would be to keep them out in the first place.
Send them back in the second.
OR
TAX THE HELL OUT OF MONEY SENT INTERNATIONALLY.
Why not?
Most of it was earned in cash with no taxes paid.
How about taxing the money sent to individuals in South America?
Just 10% would be a large amount of money that could be used to offset the money used on taking care of them in the first place.
You media whore...
These references to Coulter and Ikobo.
You wouldn't be getting anything back for that now would you?
You've left the ranks of the purists and sold your soul to demon money.
